Humble brag: The Better Human Project podcast is in the Top 5% of all podcasts globally!
And that data is especially notable for 2 reasons:
It means you guys are listening - so THANK YOU!
Weâre at that level DESPITE my recent neglect (only 5 episodes in 2021 đŹ).
FYI, the goal is to get it back into the Top 2-3% once we get back to our previous level of consistent & valuable content.
This weekâs episode is a bit of a mash up - a âhot seatâ episode from a recent seminar featuring world renowned health & wellness experts (cardiac surgeon, TEDx speaker, celebrity trainer, health documentary maker, etc, etcâŠ)
As the podcast ramps back up, Iâll be revising another old standby - my callout of 3 takeaways from each guest &/or episode.
Without further ado, here are 3 Takeaways from BHP 107: Health & Wellness Experts on The Hot Seat:
Start with the person/people in front of us.
Itâs easy to feel powerless, throw our hands up, and quit (or never start) when tasks seem insurmountable - like institutional change, etcâŠ
But we can ALWAYS make an impact at the impact at the individual level. Whether weâre a cardiac surgeon helping 1 person avoid heart surgery, or a small town family making the local community healthier by bringing in experts for seminarsâŠ
As cliche as it sounds, âbe the change you want to seeâ.
Think small/local. Start with the person in front of you. (Or yourself)
We have enough who complain yet do nothing. Donât be another one of those losers. đ
Bet on yourself and double down on personal sovereignty.Â
Nobody is going to do it for us.
We need to realize that nobody else - not the government, not the media, not our friends, family, etc etc⊠is going to hand us the life we want.
Itâs up to us to create it for ourselves.
Call it ownership, accountability, responsibility, or sovereignty⊠the sentiment is the same:
âYou are the caption of your soul,
You are the master of your fate. - Paraphrasing the poem, Invictus
Look for upstream interventions.
Dr. Mark Cucuzzella pointed out that only 6% of children who are obese by age 6 will be ânormal weightâ adults.
Our efforts to help them at 12 when theyâre already overweight, diabetic or pre-diabetic and have horrible habits are futile.
We need to get upstream of that point and intervene at earlier stages - the home, the school cafeteria, the elementary school classrooms (standing desks, etc) so that we can prevent these heartbreaking statistics from continuing.
Remember, theyâre not just statistics - theyâre people. Young people who may not ever have a chance to be happy, healthy and properly educated if we donât change the systemâŠ
